pipe-like alteration zone

GLOSSARY OF VOLCANIC TERMS
A type of narrow, cylindrical or inverted-cone shaped, discordant hydrothermal alteration zone that is typically confined to a narrow region in close proximity to a synvolcanic structure (e. g. synvolcanic fault). Pipe–like alteration zones are commonly formed by the highest temperature hydrothermal fluids within a hydrothermal cell (Morton and Franklin, 1987).
